French Ecotax: Suspended but not abrogated - new deferment at a date yet to be defined.
For the third time during 2013, the entry into force of the French Ecotax has been deferred.
After the protests of the farmers and food industry workers in Brittany, the French Government of the prime minister Francois Ayrault has announced the suspension of the Ecotax on heavy-duty vehicles, which should have entered into force as of January 1st, 2014.
The tax concerns all French and foreign vehicles over 3.5 tonnes which transit on the French road network.
The prime minister has underlined that the decision is "a suspension until further notice, not an abrogation".
After meeting the Brittany parliamentarians and administrators, Ayrault has announced that the application of the Ecotax has been postponed in the entire Country, in order to allow the government to understand the reasons of the disapproving parties.
